Coinbase now offers access to nearly 4,000 U.S. stocks for eligible UK users, with operations available 24 hours a day five days a week, commission-free and with an investment starting from £1 ($1.35). The company became the first native crypto app to offer U.S. equities in that market.

Users can fund their operations instantly in sterling or USDC, and manage those positions alongside their cryptocurrency and fiat currency holdings within a single application. Shares are held in custody in the United States by Apex Clearing, while orders are routed through Coinbase Capital Markets Corporation.

Coinbase: The ‘Everything Exchange’ Strategy

The launch is part of a long-term strategy called “Everything Exchange,” which seeks to unify access to stocks, stablecoins, savings accounts and credit products backed by crypto assets within a single platform.

Keith Grose, Regional Managing Director for the United Kingdom and Europe at Coinbase, stated that the company has built a space where users can seamlessly access stocks, stablecoins, savings and more from a single platform. Grose also anticipated the launch of new products in the United Kingdom and the European Union over the coming months.

This expansion was also made possible by the recently obtained MiFID license, which expanded the company’s permissions to offer derivatives to professional traders and equities to retail investors.

Awaiting New Permits and Regulations

Grose noted that the United Kingdom’s new crypto regulation, whose Financial Conduct Authority framework takes effect in October 2027 with the authorization process opening this coming September, is a green light to deepen the integration between traditional finance and onchain under one roof.

When asked about the possibility of offering tokenized stocks or continuous equity trading, Grose indicated that the priority was to generate immediate value for users. He acknowledged that tokenized assets represent a fundamental part of the future of financial markets and confirmed that the company is working with UK lawmakers and regulators to enable that modality as the regulatory framework allows.
