TL;DR

  • Record Withdrawal Event: Bitcoin ETFs recorded $484.9 million in net outflows on Wednesday, marking their largest single-day withdrawal since June 25.
  • Top Funds Hit Hard: BlackRock’s IBIT led the losses with $207.7 million in outflows, followed by Fidelity’s FBTC at $105.1 million and ARK 21Shares’ ARKB at $101.7 million.
  • Sentiment Remains Fragile: The withdrawals erased October’s early gains, pushing the sector into net monthly outflows. Ethereum ETFs also extended their losing streak.

Bitcoin ETFs experienced a sharp reversal on Wednesday, recording $484.9 million in net outflows after posting a $118.8 million net inflow a day earlier. The withdrawal marked the largest single-day exit since June 25, when the funds lost $691.7 million. According to data from Farside Investors, the latest selling pressure erased the gains accumulated during October’s opening trading sessions. As a result, Bitcoin ETFs moved from a positive start to the month into an overall net outflow position of roughly $163 million.

Major Funds Lead the Withdrawals

The largest share of redemptions came from BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, which lost $207.7 million during the session after attracting $122 million in inflows the previous day. Fidelity’s FBTC followed with $105.1 million in outflows, while ARK 21Shares’ ARKB recorded $101.7 million in withdrawals. Beyond those products, Bitwise’s BITB lost $27.8 million, Grayscale’s GBTC posted $39.3 million in outflows, and VanEck’s HODL recorded $3.3 million in redemptions.

Data showed that Bitcoin ETFs posted no positive flows across the entire group of funds during Wednesday’s trading session. The broad-based nature of the withdrawals highlighted a notable shift in sentiment, particularly after recent inflows had suggested renewed demand. For Bitcoin ETFs, the sudden change represented one of the weakest daily performances seen in recent months.

Early October Gains Quickly Disappear

Early October Gains Quickly Disappear

Wednesday’s losses more than offset the positive momentum recorded earlier in the week. After approximately $89.9 million left the funds on Monday, investors returned with $118.8 million in inflows on Tuesday. However, the following session completely reversed that progress. The sharp reversal leaves Bitcoin ETFs with a negative balance for the month after the first several trading days. The latest figures effectively wiped out the $321.6 million in net inflows recorded during the opening stretch of October for Bitcoin ETFs.

Market Pressure Extends Beyond Bitcoin Funds

Bitcoin traded near $82,700 on Thursday, down about 2% over the previous 24 hours. Although Bitcoin ETFs flows do not automatically translate into immediate spot-market selling, continued withdrawals can weigh on investor confidence and market sentiment. The weakness was not limited to Bitcoin products. Ethereum ETFs recorded $160.9 million in net outflows on Wednesday, extending their losing streak to seven consecutive trading sessions.

Since Sept. 29, Ether funds have shed about $569 million, with BlackRock’s ETHA accounting for $116.1 million of the latest withdrawals and Grayscale’s ETHE losing $25.8 million. For now, Bitcoin ETFs remain under close watch as investors assess whether Wednesday’s exodus was a temporary reaction or the beginning of a more sustained trend. The next trading sessions could provide a clearer signal about the direction of Bitcoin ETFs.
