TL;DR

  • Ondo launched Ondo Private Markets, a platform offering tokenized notes linked to the per-share value of pre-IPO private companies.
  • The notes are transferable and composable onchain, making them tradable 24/7 in secondary markets, and are available only to eligible non-U.S. investors.
  • Tokenized equity-based assets surpassed $42 billion in market capitalization, accounting for 35% of the total $121 billion in tokenized assets.

Ondo Finance launched Ondo Private Markets, a platform bringing exposure to private companies to onchain markets, with a pre-IPO artificial intelligence company as its first underlying asset. Tokenized notes linked to the per-share value of that company are set to begin trading on secondary markets this week, according to the company.

The notes are freely transferable and composable onchain, allowing eligible investors to enter, exit, or adjust positions 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The platform clarifies that these instruments do not represent shares in the underlying companies or grant ownership or shareholder rights: they are obligations of the issuer available exclusively to non-U.S. investors in permitted jurisdictions.

Ondo Private Markets: More Tools for More Investors

Ian De Bode, interim CEO and president of Ondo Finance, highlighted that in the United States, most investment options accessible to retail investors consist of publicly traded companies, while 87% of companies with more than $100 million in revenue are private. This new product is designed to change that.

In addition to the artificial intelligence sector, the company said it plans to expand into robotics, cybersecurity, biotechnology, and infrastructure markets.

Tokenized Assets Continue to Grow

The launch deepens the company’s strategy in the tokenized financial assets market. In July, the company partnered with Japan’s SBI Holdings to tokenize Japanese equities through its Global Markets platform. SBI plans to distribute Ondo products across its network and use its JPYSC stablecoin for settlement and as collateral.

The company’s tokenized equities and Treasurys platforms have a combined $3.7 billion in total value locked and more than one million users cumulatively. Tokenized equity assets surpassed $42 billion in market capitalization, representing approximately 35% of the $121 billion total tokenized asset market.
