TL;DR
- LayerZero explained how Global Dollar Network used its interoperability infrastructure to expand the USDG stablecoin across six blockchains.
- USDG reached a market capitalization of $3.1 billion and surpassed $3.9 billion in cumulative cross-chain transfers.
- The OFT standard allows Paxos to maintain control over security and regulatory compliance while expanding USDG’s distribution.
LayerZero published an analysis of the expansion of USDG, the stablecoin powering Global Dollar Network (GDN), which reached a market capitalization of $3.1 billion in October 2026.
According to the company, USDG also surpassed $3.9 billion in cumulative cross-chain transfers by September. Global Dollar Network has more than 150 enterprise partners and has expanded the asset’s availability to six networks through native issuance and cross-chain transfers.
The strategy allowed GDN to prioritize stablecoin distribution without developing separate infrastructure for each blockchain.
LayerZero Enables USDG Expansion Without Rebuilding Its Infrastructure
Global Dollar Network selected LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard to facilitate USDG interoperability across different networks.
The stablecoin is issued by Paxos entities under regulatory supervision in Singapore and Europe and can be redeemed for US dollars at a 1:1 ratio.
The OFT standard allows Paxos to retain control of smart contracts, select security verifiers, and enforce operational restrictions related to regulatory compliance.
It also includes features to pause transactions, set transfer limits, and restrict specific addresses.
According to LayerZero, its infrastructure uses a burn-and-mint mechanism that eliminates the need to rely on wrapped versions of the asset for cross-chain transfers.
USDG Surpasses $3.9 Billion in Cross-Chain Transfers
USDG is available through native issuance on Ethereum, Solana, Ink, X Layer, and Robinhood Chain, alongside an omnichain extension called USDG0 on Hyperliquid.
LayerZero highlighted that USDG transfers to Robinhood Chain exceeded $500 million during the first two months following the network’s launch in July 2026.
The company also stated that its OFT standard handled 87% of dollar-denominated cross-chain transfer volume in 2026, according to its own data.
For Global Dollar Network, using shared infrastructure reduces the need to develop separate contracts and security procedures for each integration.
The network can devote more resources to onboarding partners and expanding USDG adoption, while Paxos retains responsibility for issuance, custody, and regulatory compliance.
