TL;DR:

  • Bitcoin held near $84,342 after climbing from below $63,000 in August, while 93 of 100 major index constituents advanced over 24 hours.
  • Quant jumped 39% as ONDO, Lido DAO, Chainlink, Zcash and Monero joined a broader rotation that pushed the Altcoin Season Index to 56.
  • Derivatives activity stayed calm, with lower volume, slightly higher open interest and fewer liquidations, suggesting capital rotation rather than market-wide leverage expansion.

Bitcoin consolidated near $84,342 on Friday while altcoins advanced broadly, with 93 of 100 major index constituents rising over 24 hours. BTC has climbed from below $63,000 in August to almost $87,000 this week before moving sideways. That marked a reversal from Wednesday, when market breadth had narrowed. The pause is allowing capital to rotate toward more speculative assets after Bitcoin’s sharp recovery, with traders shifting attention toward smaller and more volatile tokens.

Altcoin Rotation Strengthens as Bitcoin Stalls

The Altcoin Season Index climbed to 56, up from 45 a week earlier and 38 one month ago, reaching its highest level in more than three months. Quant led the move near $98.93 after jumping 39% over 24 hours. Quant’s surge made it the strongest 24-hour performer among constituents, while ONDO traded around $0.5556 and Lido DAO near $0.4510. The improving breadth suggests capital rotation is becoming more widespread, while Bitcoin itself remained almost unchanged and continued trading sideways near $84,000 during Friday’s session. DeFi and computing names led the renewed rotation across altcoins.

AI, computing and DeFi tokens also strengthened. Chainlink traded near $13.70 as its futures open interest rose faster than price, while ONDO open interest reached a record 1.07 billion tokens. Zcash advanced toward $1,584.86 and Monero reached roughly $571.43. Fresh leverage is accompanying several of the strongest moves, creating momentum but also increasing reversal risk. ZEC futures open interest rose alongside price, pointing to new money entering rather than short covering.

Derivatives activity was calmer overall. Total trading volume fell 17% to $206 billion, while open interest rose 1.8% to $153 billion and liquidations dropped 63% to $228 million. Bitcoin futures open interest slipped below 700,000 BTC, while ETH, SOL and XRP positioning was broadly unchanged. The setup points to existing positions being held rather than traders aggressively adding leverage across the entire market. Options volatility also continued falling, suggesting traders were not pricing a disorderly move despite the altcoin rally.

Litecoin moved against the broader trend among recent winners, easing toward $70.78 after its earlier surge. The broader picture remains one of rotation rather than uniform acceleration, with Bitcoin consolidating while selected sectors attract fresh capital. The market now leaves traders watching whether altcoin strength can persist if BTC remains range-bound. Whether that rotation lasts will depend heavily on Bitcoin staying stable.
