Tether signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Bank of Kazakhstan and the Alatau City Authority to explore stablecoin use cases, asset tokenization, and decentralized finance in the Central Asian country.
The agreement establishes a trilateral collaboration framework that includes the study of international models for stablecoin issuance, focused on the development of a concept and a pilot stablecoin pegged to the tenge, Kazakhstan’s national currency.
The memorandum also contemplates the development of an asset tokenization framework within the jurisdiction of Alatau, a city conceived as a digital innovation hub in Central Asia.
The parties will evaluate the use of Tether’s Hadron, the company’s tokenization platform, to identify priority categories of assets and launch pilot projects.
Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, noted that digital assets “are evolving into sovereign-level financial infrastructure” and highlighted Kazakhstan’s strategic approach. For his part, Binur Zhalenov, Deputy Governor of the National Bank, underscored that financial stability and investor protection will remain central priorities throughout the process.
