The comparison between XRP and XLM is often framed as a contest for one market. My reading differs. The two networks compete in specific areas, but the XRP XLM market capitalization gap reflects a difference in economic function, investor base and liquidity structure.
Stellar can continue to gain relevance in real-world asset tokenization and institutional use cases. Closing the gap with Ripple requires more than announcements, partnerships and growth in tokenized value. The requirement is token utility demand proven on XLM, institutional inflows sustained over time and operational execution of the DTCC integration cycle.
XRP market capitalization sits in an approximate range of USD 80 billion to 82 billion, while XLM market capitalization sits between USD 5 billion and 8.5 billion. The relationship implies a multiple near 10x to 13x. Matching XRP market value without supply changes would require XLM near USD 2.50, a reference level that serves as a plausibility test rather than a price forecast. Relative valuation between two assets with different functions does not correct through narrative sympathy. The correction requires a change in structural demand for the token.
The first objection is methodological
Comparing market capitalizations without adjusting for liquidity, float, market depth and holder base produces fragile conclusions. XRP has a more developed market structure, regulated products and a cross-border settlement function with institutional relationships.
XLM has a relevant position in real-world asset tokenization, but the link between network activity and token demand is not automatic. In technical terms, growth in settled value on a network with low fees does not generate proportional buying pressure on the native asset. Value capture is the central issue.
I recognize Stellar progress in real-world asset tokenization. Tokenized value on Stellar reached near USD 3.5 billion, above USD 2.5 billion recorded on XRP Ledger. The RWA holder base on Stellar exceeds 17,800 addresses, compared with 122 on XRPL.
Franklin Templeton participation through the BENJI fund and Spiko with near USD 1.7 billion provide evidence of institutional use. The data matter for adoption analysis. The data do not equal token utility demand for XLM. The difference between tokenized value and value captured by the native asset requires precise measurement.
The DTCC integration is the highest-potential catalyst for Stellar. DTCC selected Stellar as a launch partner for an asset tokenization service, with launch expectation in the first half of 2027. The correct reading requires precision: the arrangement is not exclusive.
DTCC maintains a multi-chain strategy. The announcement can support an institutional narrative and attract market attention. Conversion into commercial volume and XLM demand requires operational execution, participant integration and recurring use. Operational execution carries more weight than the announcement.
Stellar also presents technical arguments
The Soroban smart contracts platform expands programmable financial use cases. Privacy features introduced in the recent protocol cycle, including reference to Protocol 25 X-Ray, reinforce the proposal for institutions requiring confidentiality controls. The joint SEC and CFTC designation of XLM as a digital commodity in March 2026 reduces U.S. regulatory uncertainty. Regulatory clarity stops being the main obstacle for XLM. The main obstacle becomes sustained token demand.
XRP retains structural advantages. The network maintains an established position in cross-border settlement for banks, payment providers and liquidity corridors. XRP ETFs in the spot segment total nine products and near USD 1.56 billion in net assets; Bitwise exceeds USD 500 million in one vehicle.
The infrastructure generates regulated institutional inflows, market depth and an investor base that XLM does not replicate at the same scale. XRP liquidity is not an adjective. XRP liquidity is a market condition that reduces friction for institutional allocations.
Legal clarity also favors XRP
Resolution of the SEC litigation in 2025 reduced uncertainty that had limited U.S. institutional participation. The conclusion that XRP is not a security in itself, combined with the ETF structure, changed perceptions of regulatory risk. XLM also advanced on regulatory clarity, but the XRP advantage sits in the combination of legal clarity, listed products and settlement function. The structural advantage of XRP does not depend on one news event. The advantage rests on infrastructure and flows.

Price reaction can reflect speculation and short-term positioning more than an immediate change in network use. For the gap to narrow in a sustainable form, token utility demand must replace expectation.
Stellar needs mechanisms linking RWA growth, Soroban activity and institutional use to net XLM purchases. Without value capture, growth in transactions and tokenized value can coexist with modest token market capitalization.
Narrowing the gap also requires institutional inflows comparable to XRP. XLM does not have a set of spot ETFs with net assets near XRP levels. The DTCC integration could attract participants, but the commercial horizon points to 2027.
The transition from institutional narrative to recurring volume requires time, regulatory compliance and counterparty adoption. Stellar operational execution must be demonstrated in production, not only in announcements and tests.
My position is clear: the XRP XLM market capitalization gap does not close through an isolated event. Stellar has a valid position in real-world asset tokenization and a relevant institutional opportunity with DTCC. XRP retains an advantage in cross-border settlement, XRP ETFs, liquidity and investor base.
Convergence would require XLM to convert network activity into token utility demand, attract sustained institutional inflows and see XRP pass through a period of relative stagnation. A 10x multiple for XLM does not follow from RWA growth alone.
I see two networks with distinct roles and a gap that can narrow gradually, not through a market reaction. Stellar needs to demonstrate value capture on XLM and execute the DTCC cycle with commercial volume.
XRP needs to maintain liquidity infrastructure and the regulated product base. Relative valuation will continue to depend on flows, use and market structure. Token utility demand is the factor separating a narrative from sustainable revaluation.
