TL;DR

  • Ripple transferred 35 million XRP, valued at $52.4 million, to an unlabeled wallet at 00:21 UTC on October 2.
  • The receiving wallet, created in December 2024, forwarded 6.5 million XRP in less than three hours to a second unidentified address.
  • Spot XRP ETFs in the U.S. recorded net inflows of $4.07 million on October 1, with Franklin XRPZ being the only fund with positive flow.

XRP rattled the market again when onchain monitoring tool Whale Alert detected a transfer of 35 million XRP, equivalent to approximately $52.4 million, from a Ripple account to a wallet with no public identification.

The transaction was recorded at 00:21 UTC on October 2, as confirmed by data from block explorer Xrpscan, which links the sending account to the ripple.com domain. After the transaction, that account retained approximately 42.9 million tokens.

The payment included a destination tag, a numeric identifier used in the XRP Ledger to route funds to a specific client or purpose within a shared address. Its presence suggests the receiving wallet could correspond to an exchange or custodian, rather than a private holder.

XRP in Transit: Tracking Ripple’s Operations

The destination wallet, opened in December 2024, did not retain the funds. In less than two and a half hours, it made three outgoing payments to a single address: 1.5 million XRP at 00:58 UTC, 2.5 million at 02:52 UTC, and another 2.5 million one minute later. All three movements shared the same destination tag. So far, the first wallet holds approximately 28.6 million tokens, while the second has accumulated the 6.5 million received.

The same Ripple account had sent 25 million XRP to another address on October 1, in addition to several smaller transfers between September 30 and that date. Since the first day of the current month, Ripple released 1 billion XRP from escrow, the tenth monthly unlock of the year. Historically, the company returns most of it to escrow; in September, for example, it re-locked 700 million, meaning only between 200 and 300 million tokens per month effectively reach the market.

Meanwhile, spot XRP ETFs in the United States reported net inflows of $4.07 million on October 1, driven almost entirely by the Franklin Templeton fund, which received $4.065 million and brought its cumulative flows to $505 million. The total net assets of the fund group reached $1.695 billion. The token trades near $1.52 according to CoinMarketCap.
