USAT is now available as a payment method for artificial intelligence agents on Celo’s native facilitator x402.
The US dollar-backed stablecoin, issued by Anchorage Digital Bank N.A. and supported by Tether, becomes the sixth stablecoin incorporated into x402.celo.org. With this integration, Celo became the first network to enable x402 payments with USAT, joining Tether’s USDT and Circle’s USDC as the third dollar-backed asset accepted by the facilitator.
Since USAT’s launch, Celo was already operating as the second blockchain to host USAT’s native mint and burn function, as well as the first to allow its use as gas.
The x402 facilitator now extends that ecosystem into the agentic economy, allowing AI agents to pay for APIs, data and services on the internet with the same stablecoin already used by their owners.
Lena Hierzi, Developer Relations Lead at Celo Core Co., highlighted that the incorporation is key to scaling payments, remittances and DeFi applications within the network’s developer community. The facilitator’s roster will continue to grow with Ripio’s stablecoins in Mexican peso, Chilean peso and Peruvian sol as upcoming additions.
