Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne ‘’The Rock’’ Johnson have joined forces to create the People’s Fund of Maui with cryptocurrency being part of the currencies accepted. This is a philanthropic initiative aimed at providing much-needed assistance to those whose lives were shattered by the devastating wildfire that ravaged Maui, Hawaii in early August 2023.
According to the release, the wildfire, which erupted with ferocity, left behind a trail of destruction, displacing families, destroying over 2,500 acres of land, and endangering lives. However, the dynamic duo, renowned for their generosity and commitment to making a positive impact, wasted no time in mobilizing their resources to address the urgent needs of the affected community.

Oprah and Dwayne Pledge to Offer Hope to Wildfire Victims
The People’s Fund of Maui, spearheaded by Winfrey and Johnson, aims to offer hope in the midst of this crisis. With a shared vision of compassion and resilience, they pledge their support by donating $10 million to assist those who have suffered the most. Notably, this fund is a testament to the power of unity and collective action when faced with adversity.
Furthermore, the A-list celebrities explained that every adult above 18 years of age residing in Lahaina and Kula, who has been displaced by the wildfires is entitled to receive a monthly stipend of $1200 to assist them during the recovery process. The unique thing about the People’s Fund of Maui, as highlighted, is that, it accepts donations in both fiat currency and various cryptocurrencies.
In addition to traditional fiat currency donations from all over the world, the fund opened its doors to Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), and several other digital currencies.
Oprah Winfrey, an iconic media mogul and humanitarian expressed her deep concern for the victims and emphasized the importance of coming together in times of crisis.
“In the face of such devastation, we must stand together and extend our hand to those who need it most. The People’s Fund of Maui is a symbol of our commitment to rebuilding lives and communities,” she said.
Crypto Donations
Recall that the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is the first UN agency to begin accepting cryptocurrencies for donations.
The agency announced it had launched a cryptocurrency fund that will accept both BTC and ETH from donors and use the funds to support open-source blockchain projects that will be instrumental in realizing its vision of helping needy children.
