MetaMask launched Agent Wallet, a non-custodial wallet built for artificial intelligence agents to operate autonomously within the Ethereum ecosystem. The platform’s announcement details that the product will enable autonomous trading across swaps, prediction markets, perpetuals, and liquidity provision on various EVM-compatible chains and on Hyperliquid.
The project is a direct response to the rise of AI in the crypto industry: exchanges like Gemini already allow AI bots to trade on behalf of their users, and wallet and card issuers are exploring the possibility of assigning autonomous agents their own financial instruments. MetaMask, which according to Token Terminal holds close to 26% of the wallet market share, aims to position itself at the forefront of this trend.

Joe Lubin, founder of Consensys, was clear about the horizon they are pursuing: “Machines are going to transact, coordinate, and verify each other on crypto rails, because crypto protocols are uniquely designed for autonomous actors.”
Security Measures Adopted by MetaMask
The design of Agent Wallet acknowledges the structural tension between granting the agent freedom of action and protecting the user’s funds. Every transaction must pass through mandatory simulation and comply with rules predefined by each user, including daily spending limits and whitelisted addresses.
Blockaid will scan operations for threats. Transactions deemed risky or exceeding established parameters will trigger a push notification via two-factor authentication or an email so the human user can approve or reject the operation. Transactions that clear the security filters will be covered by MetaMask Transaction Protection for up to $10,000, subject to terms and conditions.
“MetaMask Agent Wallet is the first agent wallet built with full-stack, comprehensive security: agents that act with autonomy, mandatory safety, and the person behind the agent maintains control,” Lubin added.
Agent Wallet is framework-agnostic and compatible with OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, Nous Research Hermes Agent, Cursor, and other providers. Early access to the wallet is available through the command-line interface for a limited number of users, with general availability projected for summer 2026.
