TL;DR

  • A Bitcoin wallet that had remained inactive since 2011 has moved 100 BTC worth about $8.09 million.
  • The coins were originally received at an estimated average cost of around $3 per BTC and stayed untouched for 14.9 years.
  • Galaxy Research identified the transfer in block 967732, while the transaction itself does not establish whether the holder sold the Bitcoin or simply moved it to another address.

A Bitcoin wallet dormant for nearly 15 years has become active again after transferring 100 BTC, highlighting the extraordinary long-term appreciation of Bitcoin since its early years. Galaxy Research reported the movement, which occurred on September 19, 2026, at 19:13 UTC and placed the value of the coins at approximately $8.09 million.

The 100 BTC were originally received on November 2, 2011, when Bitcoin was still in its early development phase. The coins remained untouched until they were moved in block 967732. Galaxy Research identified the sending address as 1Mj5R3kbScUeccyiNKJnAMk6vhHppzsEq8 and listed the sender attribution as Noah Doe #3113.

Bitcoin Wallet Shows The Scale Of Long-Term Appreciation

According to Galaxy Research’s calculation, the holdings had an average basis of roughly $3 per BTC. At the reported value of $8.09 million, the position represented a gain of approximately 2,486,052%. The calculation illustrates how dramatically Bitcoin’s market value has changed since 2011, when the asset was still far from today’s institutional market.

The transfer also provides another example of Bitcoin’s transparent but pseudonymous monetary system. Blockchain data makes it possible to identify when coins move and trace their subsequent transactions, while the identity and intentions of the person controlling an address generally remain unknown unless additional evidence connects that address to an individual or organization.

The transaction occurred at a time when Bitcoin was trading around $85,940, according to market data reported on September 21. BTC had gained more than 5% over 24 hours, while its price approached levels not seen since January.

Moving Bitcoin Does Not Mean Selling

Importantly, the transfer itself does not prove that the owner sold the 100 BTC. The blockchain confirms that the coins left the dormant address, but it does not establish the reason for the transaction or what happened to the funds afterward. The transaction can be tracked using ID 5b6d2e2b631be5aca989beb47a178859f772a80f821bd706469d1f41d12a2df3.

For Bitcoin holders and analysts, movements involving very old coins can provide useful on-chain information without automatically representing selling pressure. A transfer may reflect custody changes, wallet management, security practices, inheritance arrangements or an eventual sale. Without additional evidence, the blockchain record alone cannot distinguish among those possibilities.
