Taproot Wizards, a project based on Bitcoin Ordinals, has announced the opening of its “Wizards” NFT collection to a public sale that will take place on March 25, 2025.
This collection, which was created two years ago but never commercialized, will finally see the light of day. An initial batch of tokens will be offered at a fixed price of 0.2 BTC through a whitelist, while the remaining tokens will be auctioned through a Dutch auction, where the price starts high and decreases progressively over time.
The Rebirth of Bitcoin Ordinals
The Taproot Wizards NFTs consist of 2,121 “wizard” images, inspired by a meme that circulated during Bitcoin’s early days. This design refers to a figure that was an unofficial symbol of the cryptocurrency. Each token features a wizard with a cloak and hat, in honor of the iconic “Bitcoin Wizard” meme from 2013.
Throughout the series, there are various references to BTC culture, including tributes to notable figures such as Jameson Lopp, founder of Casa, and Cobie, a Twitter influencer, as well as nods to elements like McDonald’s and the book “The Bitcoin Standard.”
Expanding BTC Capabilities
Behind Taproot Wizards are co-founders Udi Wertheimer and Eric Wall, who are also responsible for Quantum Cats, the largest Ordinals collection by market capitalization. The mission of these creators is to showcase technological innovations that are expanding Bitcoin’s capabilities, such as the OP_CAT function. This code concatenation function, originally disabled, is being reactivated to allow the development of new protocols on BTC, similar to what happened on platforms like Ethereum and Solana.
Regarding the sale, those who participated in the Taproot Wizards whitelist were members of the “Wizard School” on Discord. To join, participants completed missions, such as interacting with the Lightning Network or submitting a photo with a “proof-of-shower” while wearing a wizard costume. Additionally, holders of “entangled” Quantum Cats tokens will receive a discount when purchasing the NFTs.
