TL;DR:

  • AI Financial reported a $271.5 million quarterly net loss and warned its condition raises substantial doubt about continuing operations within one year.
  • The company held 7.28 billion WLFI tokens valued at $706.4 million after a steep quarterly decline, producing a $348.3 million unrealized loss.
  • Token lockups, liabilities above current assets and $12.3 million cash used in operations intensified liquidity concerns as shares dropped 9.61% across its public market investor base.

AI Financial posted a $271.5 million net loss for the quarter ended March 28, 2026, turning its WLFI-heavy treasury strategy into a going-concern warning. Revenue was only $4.7 million, all from its crypto payments fintech segment, while the Nasdaq-listed firm, chaired by World Liberty Financial CEO Zachary Witkoff, said its financial condition raises substantial doubt about surviving the next year. The quarter transformed token exposure into corporate survival risk, not just mark-to-market volatility on a balance sheet. That is deterioration for a company built around digital asset exposure.

WLFI Losses Put Treasury Model Under Pressure

The central problem is the WLFI position. AI Financial held 7.28 billion WLFI tokens at quarter-end, valued at $706.4 million after falling from about $1.05 billion three months earlier. The move produced a $348.3 million unrealized loss, against a total cost basis of $1.46 billion. That gap is severe enough on paper, but the bigger issue is monetization uncertainty, because the company warned there is no assurance the tokens will retain value or be sold on favorable terms. The asset base looks large, but economically difficult to defend under stress.

Liquidity constraints make the balance sheet harder to read. About 3.53 billion WLFI tokens are non-transferable for 12 months, except for collateral, staking or lending, while another 3.75 billion face restrictions tied to shareholder approval and resale registration. Current liabilities of $39.1 million exceeded current assets of $32.2 million, and operating activities used $12.3 million in cash during the quarter. Locked tokens do not behave like liquid reserves, especially when near-term obligations still require usable cash and market depth. That mismatch turns treasury accounting into a liquidity-management problem, not only valuation.

The contrast with last year is stark. AI Financial lost only $2.4 million in the same period a year earlier, before its repositioning from Alt5 Sigma into a crypto-focused treasury company became the defining story. Its biotechnology segment is now treated as discontinued operations, leaving WLFI exposure and payment revenue at the center of the model. Shares fell 9.61% to $0.91 after the results. The market is now pricing execution risk, not merely token upside, as investors judge whether the treasury thesis can survive weak liquidity and restricted assets. For shareholders, that is the uncomfortable leverage behind the strategy.
