TL;DR:

  • Bitcoin fell 2.39% to around $76,314 after dropping as low as $76,076, erasing its post-golden-cross advance and approaching key Fibonacci support.
  • The Senate’s Clarity Act cloture vote requires 60 votes, and failure could delay comprehensive crypto market-structure legislation until after the midterm elections.
  • The Federal Reserve decision follows roughly 24 hours later, leaving Bitcoin exposed to consecutive policy catalysts while technical momentum weakens and broader markets turn risk-off this week.

Bitcoin fell sharply on Tuesday as traders confronted two major policy risks at once: a Senate showdown over the Clarity Act and a Federal Reserve meeting increasingly expected to deliver higher rates. BTC opened near $78,185, briefly touched $78,242, then dropped to an intraday low around $76,076 before trading close to $76,314. The retreat erased Bitcoin’s entire post-golden-cross advance and pushed price back toward a technically sensitive support zone. The move left BTC down 2.39% on the day as risk appetite weakened across markets ahead of two closely watched decisions.

The technical picture added to the unease. Bitcoin broke below the $79,113 Fibonacci level and moved toward the 50% retracement near $75,569, with deeper support identified around $73,986 and $71,731. Momentum indicators suggest the decline is more than simple profit-taking, even though Bitcoin is not yet oversold. The Average Directional Index stood at 42.8, signaling a strong trend, while the Relative Strength Index remained neutral at 50.5. At the same time, the Squeeze Momentum Indicator stayed active with negative momentum, suggesting sellers currently control the short-term setup.

Clarity Act Vote and Fed Decision Create a Double Catalyst

The bigger uncertainty, however, sits outside the charts. The Senate is scheduled to hold a cloture vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act at 2:15 p.m. ET, a procedural step required to formally open debate. The measure needs 60 votes, and support has appeared increasingly uncertain. A failed cloture vote would not kill the bill, but it could postpone comprehensive crypto market-structure legislation until after the midterm elections. That outcome would leave the industry operating under the existing patchwork of SEC and CFTC rules and enforcement actions for longer.

The timing intensifies the pressure because the Federal Reserve will announce its rate decision roughly 24 hours later. Stock futures were already weaker Tuesday, the 10-year Treasury yield was near its highest level since 2023, and oil prices were rising on Middle East supply concerns. Bitcoin is therefore entering two consecutive policy events with weakening technical momentum and broader risk-off conditions. A successful Senate vote could improve sentiment around regulatory clarity, but failure combined with a rate hike could deepen the current correction if support around the mid-$75,000 area does not hold. That combination leaves traders with unusually little room for policy disappointment.
