BancaStato launched regulated cryptocurrency trading for clients on July 23 after connecting Sygnum’s digital-asset services to its Avaloq core banking and digital channels. Through the integration, clients can buy, hold and sell Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Solana directly inside existing web and mobile banking applications, making crypto access part of the bank’s familiar client interface.

Trades are executed through Sygnum’s B2B API without a separate order management system, which the firms said reduces operational complexity and supports flexible risk controls. Client assets are held through Sygnum’s institutional custody setup, with regulated off-balance-sheet safeguarding built into the service architecture alongside the bank’s traditional portfolio view.

BancaStato becomes the first bank using Avaloq’s SaaS environment to provide Sygnum-powered crypto trading directly through its e-banking channels and joins more than 25 institutions on Sygnum’s B2B platform. The next test is whether the integrated model can turn infrastructure efficiency into sustained client adoption across Ticino’s banking market.
