Coinbase sent an artificial intelligence-generated alert that claimed Norway had defeated Brazil 3-2 in a World Cup match, before the game had even started.
The notification was sent Sunday at 10:26 a.m. ET. It stated that Erling Haaland had scored two goals at MetLife Stadium. The match did not kick off until 4 p.m. that same day. At that time, Coinbase’s own prediction markets page still listed the game as delayed due to weather conditions.
Taking a look with the team – thx for reporting it

X users posted screenshots of the alert. CEO Brian Armstrong responded to one of the posts indicating he was investigating the incident with his team. Later, Max Branzburg, head of consumer products and ventures at Coinbase, confirmed the error had been corrected and that updates were implemented to prevent this type of inaccuracy in the future. “It’s incredible to see the power of AI-enabled insights 24/7, but obviously still needs tuning,” he wrote on X.
Coinbase told me this earlier at 11:26am argentinian time. Score was wrong but who won and Haaland brace wasn't, 🫣🫣🫣. pic.twitter.com/9bEhNBonjT

Ironically, Norway did defeat Brazil in the actual match, with Haaland scoring two goals. The final score was 2-1. Coinbase continues to bet on prediction markets, but has flaws left to fix.
