TL;DR:

  • The XRP Ledger Foundation confirmed the official addition of Flare Networks to its recommended list of validators on October 28, 2026.
  • The inclusion places Flare within the set of recommended operators to integrate the Unique Node Lists (UNL) of XRP Ledger servers.
  • Flare previously deployed the FXRP asset on its mainnet during September 2025 through its FAssets infrastructure.

This Wednesday, October 28, it was announced that, following a public technical evaluation, the XRP Ledger Foundation adds Flare to its list of recommended validators. This move grants Flare Networks a direct role in the consensus mechanism and the operational governance of the decentralized protocol.

The non-profit organization communicated the update via a post on its official X account, noting that the decision reflects Flare’s continued commitment to XRPL infrastructure. Furthermore, the foundation detailed that the applicant team met the technical and operational alignment criteria required to support the overall stability of the distributed ledger.

For their part, representatives of Flare Networks issued a public statement of gratitude addressed to both the foundation and the community members who openly reviewed the membership application.

Unlike blockchains based on proof-of-work or conventional proof-of-stake, the XRP Ledger uses a federated consensus algorithm. In this architecture, validator nodes collectively and independently determine the order and validity of transaction batches settled in each ledger close.

To prevent double-spending and maintain synchronization without intensive mining, ecosystem servers configure a Unique Node List (UNL). Although each node operator retains the technical ability to define their own trust list, a substantial proportion of participants adopt the lists recommended by the XRP Ledger Foundation and Ripple.

Consensus Architecture and the Role of Recommended UNL Lists

Formal recognition within the foundation’s list classifies an operator as a technically reliable, stable, and independent entity relative to other ecosystem participants.

The foundation’s recommended validator list brings together financial technology companies, infrastructure providers, and international academic institutions. Organizations present include Ripple, XRPL Labs, GateHub, Bithomp, Peersyst Technology, and XRPL Commons, as well as educational institutions such as the University of Kansas, the Australian National University, and the University of Nicosia.

The addition of Flare consolidates a technical relationship dating back to earlier integration phases between both protocols. In September 2025, Flare deployed FXRP on its mainnet, a component powered by its FAssets architecture. This implementation allows XRP holders to interact with decentralized finance (DeFi) primitives via smart contracts executed outside the XRPL base layer.

The participation of external entities in the validation scheme aims to preserve operational resilience and avoid power concentration in block processing. Data from the XRP Ledger Foundation suggests that geographic and institutional diversification of operators strengthens security guarantees against technical disruptions or censorship attempts.

The UNL list update process will continue to be subject to periodic performance audits, uptime metrics, and adherence to the current versions of the protocol software.
