XRP futures open interest across major derivatives exchanges has fallen about 23% in less than a month, dropping from roughly $1.128 billion in late August to around $871 million, according to CryptoQuant contributor Arab Chain. The contraction removed approximately $257 million in outstanding positions, signaling a broad reduction in leveraged XRP exposure.
Binance accounted for the largest portion of the decline, with XRP open interest falling from about $558 million to $423 million. Bybit dropped from roughly $379 million to $291 million, while OKX declined from $125 million to $107 million. The figures point to traders unwinding leverage accumulated during the earlier rally, although falling open interest alone does not determine whether long or short positions dominated the closures.
The key question is whether derivatives participation stabilizes after the recent deleveraging. A continued decline in open interest would indicate further contraction in leveraged activity, while stabilization or renewed growth would suggest traders are rebuilding futures exposure after the sharp reduction.
