The Stellar network celebrated its eleventh anniversary with a major update to its Soroban smart contracts platform.
The Build on Stellar team announced that the Soroban SDK v28 is now live on mainnet, with support for Protocol 28, launched on September 16 under the name Adapter. This update introduced faster consensus, atomic upgrades for contract fleets, and a standardized mechanism to migrate contract data in a more secure way.

TL;DR: stored contract data is no longer locked into the shape you first wrote it in. For most contracts this is a rebuild and nothing else.

Among the highlights of version 28 of the Soroban Rust SDK are Spec Shaking v2, executable references, and native contracts that can be loaded in test environments.
Spec Shaking v2 applies dead code elimination to determine which entries to include in the final binary, optimizing the compilation process. Additionally, the new version relaxes the data structure in the ledger, removing the previous requirement of an exact match between struct fields and the keys of the stored map.
Regarding the anniversary, Tomer Weller, head of product at the Stellar Foundation, recalled that the “new” network was born in 2015, although the original version had been operating since 2014 with the native currency “Stellars” and the ticker STR. In that context, the network recently surpassed 22,000 holders of real-world assets (RWA).
According to CoinMarketCap, XLM is trading at $0.226, with an 11% gain over the past week, a volume of $353 million, and a market capitalization of nearly $8 billion.
