Creating the largest skatepark in the metaverse is one of the biggest goals of The Sandbox, in partnership with Tony Hawk and Autograph. It has been announced that The Sandbox has partnered up with Tony Hawk Inc. and Autograph to launch the first Tony Hawk LAND in The Sandbox, marking the first time Tony Hawk has entered a metaverse of his own.
Legends Coming to the Metaverse
It is anticipated that Tony Hawk Inc and The Sandbox will cooperate on creating the largest virtual skatepark ever built, Tony Hawk’s 6×6 LAND, as a result of this partnership. Additionally, Autograph has also developed Tony Hawk avatars that are modeled after the skateboards, equipment, and apparel that Tony Hawk has used most famously at the X Games since 1999, including the legendary skateboard he used to land the 900.
This will allow Autograph’s high-fidelity avatars to be converted into 3D voxel versions that will be interoperable within Sandbox’s open metaverse, giving their owners more utility and value to their avatars by enabling them to participate in experiences with in-game functionality.
There is no doubt that Tony Hawk is one of the greatest skateboarders, entrepreneurs, and founders of The Skatepark Project. After becoming a professional skateboarder at the age of 14, he was considered one of the best competitive skateboarders in the world by the age of 16.
His international reputation as the most recognized action sports figure in the world has culminated in him winning the World Championship for 12 consecutive years as well as demonstrating and exhibiting his skills internationally. As a skateboarder, he considers skateboarding an art form, a lifestyle, as well as a sports activity. Among his many achievements, he is credited with landing the first 900, which he considers one of the most technically difficult moves in skateboarding. He has been inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame as an inaugural member.
Tony Hawk said:
“I have been a fan of new technology all of my life – from the first videogames and home computers with CGI capabilities – so I am fascinated by the metaverse and excited to bring our culture into the virtual landscape of The Sandbox“.
There is something very magical about The Sandbox that is a part virtual world, part amusement park, and fully embraces the idea of the metaverse as a continuous shared digital space where heroes and worlds collide to create magic. The Sandbox team has always believed in empowering players to create their own experiences by making use of both well-known and original characters and worlds. This vision comes from The Sandbox team as well as its existing partnerships such as Warner Music Group, Ubisoft, The Rabbids, Gucci Vault, The Walking Dead, Snoop Dogg, and Adidas, Deadmau5, Steve Aoki, Richie Hawtin, The Smurfs, Care Bears, Atari, ZEPETO.
