NSW Police said that Cybercrime Squad detectives seized $5.7 million in cryptocurrency after a 15-month investigation into alleged darknet market dealings. The probe, named Strike Force Andalusia, began in September 2024 after detectives examined a bitcoin wallet believed to hold proceeds of illegal activity.
The seizure affects two men allegedly linked to the wallet. Police said a 39-year-old man was charged after a May 2025 search in Surfside, while a 41-year-old man was later charged over alleged involvement in transferring cryptocurrency. The matters remain before Batemans Bay and Campbelltown local courts.
Police said detectives executed another warrant in Ingleburn on Monday, May 4, 2026, where they allegedly uncovered 52.3 bitcoin on electronic devices. Cybercrime Squad commander Detective Superintendent Matt Craft said the case shows darknet activity is not anonymous, while inquiries under Strike Force Andalusia remain ongoing.
