TL;DR:
- Estimated net worth: Forbes pegs Justin Sun’s net worth at $8.5 billion as of September 1.
- Disputed methodology: The Tron founder claims financial media outlets apply a 70% to 80% discount on his digital assets.
- Legal dispute: Sun filed a lawsuit to recover 30 million yuan ($4.5 million) paid as a bride price to Jing Tian’s family.
This Tuesday, September 1, the founder of the Tron network, Justin Sun, questioned the calculation methods applied to his billion-dollar crypto fortune in a post on his X account.
彭博和福布斯算我的身家时,会给加密资产打两折、三折。我理解他们的逻辑:集中、波动大、按他们的标准算不上"确定"。这是他们的方法论,与我无关。…

Sun argued in a series of posts that his personal balance sheet is not a matter of public interest. He explained that outlets like Bloomberg and Forbes calculate his cryptocurrency holdings by assigning them only 20% to 30% of their actual market value.
According to the account published by the entrepreneur himself, this editorial discount is due to the fact that these assets exhibit high concentration and volatility. Analysts at these financial publications consider large token positions to lack immediate quantitative certainty. Sun said he understands the technical logic used by the financial media, though he pointed out that such a parameter reflects exclusively the policy of those outlets and not the reality of his finances.
The 36-year-old entrepreneur noted in a subsequent post that for the past 14 years, he has deliberately held the bulk of his capital allocated across digital assets. Forbes currently lists his net worth at approximately $8.5 billion.
Justin Sun’s Legal Conflicts and Financial Claims

The discussion regarding his funds coincides with the controversy sparked on August 27 following the publication of a text titled “My Girlfriend Jing Tian”. In the account, formally labeled as fictional by its author, Sun shared details regarding his breakup with Chinese actress Jing Tian.
The Tron founder stated that he transferred 30 million yuan (approximately $4.5 million) to the actress’s parents as a bride price after proposing in January. Sun alleged that the actress requested an additional $50 million before starting a surrogacy procedure agreed upon by both parties.
After consulting with Anthropic’s Claude artificial intelligence assistant, Sun chose to reject the financial demand and end the relationship. The businessman filed a lawsuit against Jing Tian and her parents aiming to recover the funds provided.
For her part, Jing Tian, who commands an audience of over 26 million followers on the Weibo platform, denied Sun’s version on August 28. The actress stated in a digital post that she has never commercialized her feelings and that she will leave the resolution of the dispute in the hands of the courts.
Sun’s legal landscape also encompasses other open corporate fronts across the decentralized sector. Court records indicate that DeFi project World Liberty Financial filed a defamation countersuit against Sun last May, accusing him of coordinating short selling and institutional smear campaigns.
Sun described World Liberty Financial’s legal action as a publicity stunt lacking legal merit. At the same time, the businessman remains engaged in ongoing litigation in Hong Kong courts against custody firm First Digital Trust concerning the management and auditing of TrueUSD stablecoin reserves.
