Hong Kong-Based Crypto.com Now Labelled as First ISO/IEC 27701:2019 Certified Crypto Platform

Crypto.com, crypto payment platform based in Hong Kong, is now the first company in crypto space to have ISO/IEC 27701:2019 privacy information management system certification.

Crypto.com announced the news in a blog post published on Tuesday, June 2. The company said the this “gold standard” privacy certification will strengthen its “Defense in Depth” strategy.

The audit of company’s privacy management system is conducted by SGS, Geneva-based inspection, verification, and certification company. According to blog post, this thirty-party audit of Crypto.com covered multiple departments, functions and products, including the Crypto.com App.

The platforms privacy management system was thoroughly examined against the ISO/IEC 27701:2019. After rigid privacy review, SGS marked the platform as certified.

Jason Lau, Chief Information Security Officer of Crypto.com, said:

“ISO/IEC 27701:2019 is validation to our employees and our customers that our focus is not just security, but also upholding the privacy rights of individuals, and an organizational-wide commitment towards constantly enhancing our global privacy program. This is yet another milestone for our team as we build trust with our customers and partners during our global expansion. This was truly a company-wide effort.”

According to Crypto.com, data privacy standards such as The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO), or California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) are now common for medium and large-scale businesses. But achieving gold standard certification in privacy risk management is a milestone that demonstrate its “commitment to meeting these regulatory requirements through its Defense-in-Depth strategy, which now encompasses both security and privacy domains.”

The company is already certified with ISO/IEC 27001:2013, CCSS Level 3, ISO/IEC 27701:2019 and PCI:DSS 3.2.1, Level 1 compliance. The company claims to be the first crypto platform in the world to have all these certification.

The company’s product suite include an exchange, an app that allows customer to securely buy, sell, store, and send 53 cryptocurrencies, MCO Visa Card that supports Bitcoin [BTC], Ethereum [ETH], Litecoin [LTC], and XRP to pay for goods or services.

As reported, Crypto.com has recently expanded its services to Canada following a regulatory approval. The company is now delivering its MCO Visa Card services in Europe, Singapore, US, and Canada.
