The leading digital intelligence (DI) solution provider, Cellebrite, has introduced Cellebrite Crypto Tracer, a new powerful tool to investigate and track cryptocurrencies used in criminal activities.

According to an announcement on Tuesday, July 28, Cellebrite Crypto Tracer is powered by CipherTrace Inspector financial investigations solution that helps law enforcement agencies to investigate more than 87% of global virtual assets.

Stephen Ryan, COO of CipherTrace, stated:

“We’re very excited to offer our best-in-class cryptocurrency tracking and blockchain analytic capabilities to enhance Cellebrite’s Digital Intelligence, training, and investigative services. As criminals increasingly utilize cryptocurrencies in their illicit activity, our partnership with Cellebrite will be that much more important to making the digital world a safer place.”

This new tool is a comprehensive cryptocurrency investigation solution that:

“enables investigators to aggregate and curate millions of open source and private references, deception data, and human intelligence, resulting in a dataset of over 522 million attributable points.”

Cellebrite said that these data points trace cryptocurrency transactions from start to end,  where the money originated and where it went, in both wallets and exchanges.

Cellebrite Crypto Tracer features a blockchain search engine and a risk scoring mechanism that contains profiles of hundreds of global exchanges, ATMs, gambling services, and known criminal addresses and assigns risk levels to transactions.

The solution enables non-technical users to follow virtual money trails without having advance knowledge of blockchain.

The software leverages a massive transaction database that features graphic mapping and color-coded threat level transactions to enhance the visualization and understanding of the activities. An Integrated Case Management service allows investigation teams to save research, replay searches, export investigation reports, and collaborate with others involved in the investigation.

Cellebrite Crypto Tracer also provides a 3-day training course to teach investigators the best cryptocurrency investigation techniques and how to use CipherTrace Inspector. A Cellebrite Advanced Services (CAS) team, comprising certified forensics experts, will also be conducting an advance investigation to help law enforcement agencies.

Leeor Ben-Peretz, Chief Strategy Officer of Cellebrite, commented:

“It has long been assumed that blockchain and cryptocurrency transactions remain untraceable and unknown. As a matter of fact, the essence of blockchain is to indelibly keep a record of each step of every transaction. We’re enabling investigative teams to extract this information and use the power of Digital Intelligence to aid them in interpreting the data needed to identify illicit blockchain activity and keep communities safe.”

With the rise of bad actors in crypto space, there is a growing demand for crypto investigation and tracking tools. Companies like Elliptic have seen a huge growth in the past 12 months. What Cellebrite brings to crypto space, it remains to be seen.
