Cronos officially launched the Smarturn upgrade, an enhancement to its EVM designed to improve speed, interoperability, and the developer experience. Version v1.5.0 introduces smart accounts and new opcodes that align the network with Ethereumās Prague and Cancun upgrades.
The most significant change is the adoption of the EIP-7702 standard, which allows user wallets to function as smart contracts. With this feature, users can execute multiple actions in a single transaction, set custom permissions, and use flexible gas payment methods. This upgrade positions Cronos among the few EVM-compatible networks offering advanced account abstraction, expanding tools for dApps and DeFi protocols.
Smarturn also adds interoperability improvements through IBC v2, new RPC tools for faster data queries, and a mempool that enables users to cancel or speed up pending transactions. During deployment, the network paused operations for about 60 minutes before resuming stable activity.
The CRO token is trading at $0.1470 after a 1.5% decline over the past 24 hours, with trading volume down more than 60%. Its performance reflects the broader market correction, as Bitcoin fell below $108,000 following Jerome Powellās comments on U.S. monetary policy.
