Kraken restored its spot and derivatives trading services after a technical outage lasting approximately one hour. The incident disrupted platform connectivity and order processing for some users.
According to the exchange’s official status page, the problems began at 02:42 UTC and were resolved at 03:42 UTC.
During that period, some customers experienced difficulties accessing their accounts, viewing market data, and executing buy or sell orders.
Kraken Experiences Connectivity Issues Across Its Platform and APIs
The outage affected Kraken’s website and mobile app, as well as its REST, WebSocket, and FIX APIs, which are used by retail traders, institutional clients, and automated trading systems.
These interfaces allow users to check prices, receive market data, and submit orders directly to the exchange’s systems.
The disruption prevented some users from connecting properly or submitting orders, although Kraken did not disclose how many accounts were affected.
The company confirmed that services were restored one hour after the initial reports. No security breach or loss of customer funds was reported in connection with the incident.
The outage raised additional concerns amid heightened security fears surrounding crypto exchanges, following the attack on Binance, which resulted in estimated losses exceeding $6.3 billion.
However, Kraken’s issue was technical, and there is no indication that it was connected to the Binance hack.
xStocks Expansion
The exchange is also continuing to develop xStocks, its tokenized equities platform, which allows users to trade digital representations of traditional securities outside conventional stock market hours.
According to data released by the project, more than 50% of xStocks trading volume takes place outside regular stock exchange hours.
Kraken also reported that its offering had surpassed 1,000 tokenized asset listings after expanding its available catalog the previous week.
The platform aims to provide access to traditional financial instruments through blockchain infrastructure, allowing trading beyond conventional stock market sessions.
Separately, the exchange faced criticism for requesting additional personal information from certain Monero users, including employment details, proof of income, and bank statements.
Arjun Sethi, Kraken’s co-CEO, apologized for those requests, which had prompted complaints from affected customers.
The exchange confirmed that the trading disruption had been resolved and that the affected connections were available again.
