IOTA and Dell Technologies Introduce Project Alvarium

IOTA announced another strategic partnership with a traditional technology company, Dell Technologies. The collaboration focuses on a tool for measuring the trustworthiness of data.

Project Alvarium is a demonstration from two companies. It aims to assure businesses about the data they use in their decision-making systems. The project will help companies evaluate data sets before using them in applications.

Blockchain Helps Companies Trust Their Data

Data is the new gold of the 21st century. Almost all businesses worldwide have acknowledged its importance and plan to run their operations based on data.

But this new asset has specific challenges. Data manipulation is a natural challenge and sometimes results in lousy decision-making in companies.

When businesses can’t trust their input data in decision-making systems, they may move back to traditional methods. Dell Technologies has been busy finding a solution for the challenge. Their newest partnership now focuses on using blockchain-based services to provide a comprehensive solution.

Dell Technologies introduced the first Data Confidence Fabric in 2019. Since then, it started working with Ripple and leveraged the IOTA Streams framework to improve the service and re-engineer it.

The system has a step-by-step scoring mechanism that tracks data from the IoT device sensor or edge server to the cloud. It rates data and logs the rating on the IOTA Tangle.

Saving data on blockchains prevents tampering with the rating and somehow assures the businesses about data integrity.

The collaboration between IOTA and Dell Technologies results in a demonstration that paves the way for initial integration. In other words, businesses can now integrate the system at the hardware or software level. 

Dell Technologies has been busy working on solutions about data integrity. Steve Todd, Fellow at Dell Technologies, said about the new system:

Data confidence is needed to manage data at scale, creating systems of trust in this data, so users at all levels understand the terms of use. Project Alvarium will create this transparency, and the more companies that integrate it into their processes and systems, the closer we’ll come to a future without data ambiguity.”

The new system from Dell Technologies and IOTA needs real-world testing. They will join forces with another tech giant, Intel, to find real-world pilots. More companies will join this partnership to provide a comprehensive solution for the data-centric industry.
