DeFi Protocol Clearpool Executes Core Infrastructure Migration to XRPL

TL;DR:

  • Clearpool abandons Ethereum exclusivity and migrates its core infrastructure to the XRP Ledger, replacing the CPOOL token with CLEAR at a 1:1 ratio.
  • The protocol will launch an institutional credit fund alongside Cicada Partners, with Ripple as a partner and settlements exclusively in RLUSD.
  • The new deflationary model will burn 50% of all fees generated and distribute the remainder among active protocol stakers.

The decentralized credit protocol Clearpool announced the abandonment of its exclusivity within the Ethereum ecosystem to migrate its core infrastructure to the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

This decision also entails a complete replacement of its native token: CPOOL, launched in 2021, will be replaced by CLEAR at a 1:1 ratio. The proposal was published on the project’s governance forum and includes a 14-day community discussion period before being submitted to a final vote on Snapshot.

Part of the reason behind the token change is that 99% of the CPOOL supply has already been distributed, leaving the project without reserves to incentivize liquidity in new markets. The name CLEAR is no coincidence. It reflects a departure from opaque models in favor of auditable terms and transparent allocations, as the team communicated in the governance forum.

Clearpool: Injecting Institutional Credit Into the XRPL

The migration is anchored in the launch of XRPL v3, which for the first time incorporated native lending mechanisms into the network, historically associated with cross-border payments and holding vast reserves of idle liquidity. Clearpool seeks to replicate Morpho’s model on Ethereum in that space, a platform that accumulated over $14 billion in deposits, but oriented toward private credit and real companies.

Alongside Cicada Partners, Clearpool will launch an institutional credit fund aimed at financing fintech and payments companies. All payments and settlements will be conducted exclusively in RLUSD, Ripple’s regulated stablecoin. The company led by Brad Garlinghouse joined the fund as a limited partner, contributing the initial capital for the first liquidity pools.

The architecture is already in Devnet testing phase, while mainnet validators complete the final vote on the updates linked to the lending module.

Deflationary Policy

Borrower custody and verification will be handled by Hex Trust, a regulated custodian that will also connect the new XRPL pools with the ERC-20 infrastructure familiar to institutional investors. To contain selling pressure on its token, Clearpool will activate a permanent deflationary mechanism: half of all fees generated will be directed toward open-market buybacks and immediate token burns.
