The XRP Ledger formally joined the technological race for quantum resistance, with a roadmap that sets 2028 as the target year to complete the transition.
According to Vet, a contributor to the XRPL Foundation and validator on the decentralized unique node list (dUNL), the most significant advances and the launch of a hybrid deployment of the new security protocols are already expected by 2027. The timeline places the network ahead of Ethereum, whose equivalent roadmap extends to 2029.
Quantum secure accounts is just one part, Algorand is not fully quantum ready either. Lots of Ed25519 use on the network.

XRP Ledger developers identify three architectural features as core advantages of the migration. The first is native cryptographic key rotation, which will allow security standards to be updated while fully preserving existing r-addresses, eliminating confusion for custodians and users.
The second is an emergency response protocol called “Quantum-Day”, which would allow vulnerable accounts to be isolated and placed into a safe mode in the event of an unexpected technological breakthrough in quantum computing, without disrupting the XRP Ledger’s operations. The third is the active testing of cryptography resistant to quantum attacks, implemented through a hybrid approach that runs in parallel with the existing system.
XRP Ledger Competes with Algorand
At the same time, the community revisited the debate over technological leadership with Algorand, which announced the launch of quantum-secure accounts based on Falcon-1024 signatures. Vet urged against overstating that achievement: according to his analysis, the Algorand network still relies heavily on the Ed25519 standard, which is vulnerable to quantum attacks, for the majority of its everyday operations. The full integration of quantum protection in Algorand, including the consensus mechanism, would not be completed before 2027.
Quantum Roadmap
For its part, Ripple‘s strategy and the Project Eleven initiatives contemplate a comprehensive security audit covering every layer of the XRP Ledger, from validators to network infrastructure. The full plan includes a testing phase, the hybrid use of both old and new signatures simultaneously during 2027, and the definitive upgrade on the mainnet during 2028.
