The Cardano wallet provider, SecondFi, announced this Friday the execution of a balance snapshot for its users. This measure aims to formally begin the refund process for those affected by the automated attacks suffered between June 21 and June 23. According to the company’s investigation, the hack was executed by two independent actors who exploited a vulnerability in private key generation at the address level within their software.

The exploit impacted the Cardano ecosystem, compromising hundreds of wallets from which millions of ADA were drained. In response, SecondFi and its parent company, EMURGO, secured approximately 129 million ADA in an emergency containment effort to back a dedicated restoration fund. Currently, the service remains in maintenance mode while external cybersecurity firms audit the systems and law enforcement authorities trace the stolen assets.
Affected users can now begin formally registering their claims through the company’s official support portal. SecondFi emphatically warned against restoring recovery phrases in other wallets or claiming staking rewards, as compromised keys remain exposed at the network level and attackers are actively monitoring the mempool.
