EMURGO, a co-founding entity of Cardano and developer of the SecondFi wallet, announced this Wednesday its official withdrawal from the Pentad governance group. The confirmation was made through its official X account, noting that this strategic decision aims to exclusively concentrate all its human and technical resources on the recovery process of funds for users affected by the recent exploit.

The market impact comes two weeks after a critical vulnerability in SecondFi’s address generation system compromised network security, resulting in the theft of approximately 16 million ADA, valued at $2.4 million. The Cardano community has responded with an intense debate and divided criticism regarding whether EMURGO should maintain treasury funding after the incident.

The company expects to launch its comprehensive reimbursement plan to compensate the 374 affected wallets. They estimate that compensation will be completed in approximately two weeks, prioritizing accountability within the blockchain ecosystem.
