TL;DR:

  • Ripple received preliminary approval for a CASP license from Luxembourg’s CSSF under the EU’s MiCA regulatory framework.
  • The license will enable Ripple to deploy its payment and stablecoin services across the 30 countries of the European Economic Area through a single integration.
  • The firm has processed over $100 billion in volume and operates in more than 60 markets; it holds over 75 international regulatory licenses.

Ripple‘s expansion across Europe continues to advance and strengthen its foundations. The company announced it received preliminary approval for a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) of Luxembourg, under the MiCA regulation framework of the European Union. The approval, formalized in a no-objection letter, is subject to final conditions, but opens the path for the San Francisco-based firm to operate regulated crypto-asset services across all countries of the European Economic Area.

The CASP license, combined with the Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license Ripple already holds in the EU, will allow European banks, fintechs and corporations to access the company’s full payments and stablecoin infrastructure —including collections, conversions and payments— through a single integration. Until now, that unified integration was not available. Europe already represents a priority region for Ripple’s business, with a client portfolio that includes some of the continent’s leading financial institutions.

Ripple Already Holds Over 75 Licenses

Cassie Craddock, Managing Director for the UK and Europe at Ripple, noted that financial market infrastructure is migrating toward blockchain, from cross-border payments to collateral management and tokenized assets. “Banks and fintechs are actively building the digital asset capabilities they need to remain competitive,” she stated. Matthew Osborne, Head of Policy for the UK and Europe, highlighted Luxembourg’s role as a reference regulatory hub for its proportional approach and expertise in digital asset supervision.

In January 2026, Ripple obtained its EMI license and crypto-asset registration with the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority. The company holds over 75 regulatory licenses worldwide, positioning it among the crypto industry firms with the broadest regulatory coverage at a global level. Its Payments platform has processed more than $100 billion in total volume and operates in more than 60 markets.

Criticism of the MiCA Framework

It is worth noting that MiCA’s own validity is under review. The European Commission opened a consultation last month to assess whether the regulatory framework remains fit for purpose, amid criticism of its restrictions on stablecoins, which include a broad prohibition on offering interest and reserve requirements mandating that up to 60% of backing assets be held in cash bank deposits.
