Sui announced it will incorporate confidential transfers into its network, as revealed by co-founder Adeniyi Abiodun in a thread published on X.

The design separates two functions that in other protocols are typically handled by a single mechanism: range proofs hide transaction amounts without revealing figures to any external party, while the protocol itself is responsible for verifying that no new unbacked tokens are generated.

This separation is fundamental. When a single proof must manage both privacy and supply integrity, the attack surface expands. A counterfeiting bug in Zcash‘s Orchard system illustrated that problem precisely: it allowed unauthorized tokens to be minted without the system detecting it.

By keeping supply control at the protocol level, Sui aims to make that vector significantly harder to exploit. The project is part of Sui’s broader strategy, alongside the development of payment tools for artificial intelligence agents operating autonomously on-chain, with Walrus as the decentralized storage layer.
