Ukrainian police are at the center of one of the most serious cases of crypto violence of the year. The Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office confirmed it has completed the preliminary investigation against a group composed of four former officers and a civilian with a criminal record, all of them charged with kidnapping and extorting crypto entrepreneurs for an amount exceeding $2.2 million.

According to the indictment, the ringleaders of the scheme were two former colonels from the Main Police of Crimea and Sevastopol, along with a Kyiv-based unit, who organized an armed gang with clearly defined roles. The suspects used official transport, identified themselves as active agents and communicated through encrypted messengers to carry out the attacks.

At least four victims were tracked, abducted at gunpoint and forced to sign documents acknowledging nonexistent debts. In one of the documented cases, a businessman in Kyiv was forced to acknowledge a fictitious debt of $5 million before being transported between different locations.
