TL;DR

  • Lido will integrate Chainlink CCIP as the official infrastructure for wstETH cross-chain transfers, removing the need for native bridges and third-party providers.
  • The migration will use Chainlink’s CCT standard, which enables zero-slippage transfers and full contract control; the initial rollout includes Plasma, Monad, Ink, and 0G.
  • CCIP, securing over $100 billion in TVL and $26 trillion in processed value, will provide Lido with an additional layer of security and enable cross-chain governance under DAO control.

Lido will integrate Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as the official infrastructure for cross-chain transfers of Wrapped Staked Ether (wstETH). The partnership sets a new benchmark for security and scalability, allowing the token to operate across multiple networks without relying on native bridges or external providers.

The migration will adopt Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard, which supports zero-slippage transfers, autonomous deployments, and full contract control by the Lido DAO. The change aims to strengthen interoperability and provide users with a more stable, programmable, and secure system. Deployment will proceed gradually across 16 compatible chains, with the first implementations already live on Plasma, Monad, Ink, and 0G.

The CCT model will allow Lido to retain control over wstETH contracts and bridge endpoints through DAO governance votes. CCIP, which secures more than $100 billion in DeFi TVL and has processed $26 trillion in onchain transactions, will add a robust layer of protection through independent cross-chain activity monitoring and configurable emergency features such as network pauses or extra confirmations for high-value transfers.

Lido Will Preserve Its Sovereignty Through Cross-Chain Governance

The integration also enables decentralized cross-chain governance. CCIP supports arbitrary message passing, allowing voting and management actions to be executed across different networks without compromising DAO sovereignty. In addition, its burn/mint architecture removes reliance on volatile liquidity pools, ensuring direct and lossless transfers between ecosystems.

Jakov Buratovic, Head of DeFi at Lido, said that secure interoperability is essential for managing liquidity and taking advantage of opportunities in a multichain environment. He stated that adopting CCIP provides a standardized mechanism for moving wstETH while keeping token ownership under community control.

The Lido Ecosystem Foundation will coordinate strategic partnerships and negotiations involving stETH and wstETH, aiming to strengthen the protocol’s competitiveness and resilience in a market increasingly defined by interoperability.
