Stablecoin infrastructure company Zerohash has secured a key license under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). This makes it one of the first providers authorized for stablecoin services in the bloc. Zerohash Europe announced this Sunday that it obtained the license from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), confirming its status as a registered crypto-asset service provider (CASP).

The approval allows Zerohash to offer crypto products to banks and fintechs across the 30 countries of the European Economic Area. The regulatory milestone coincides with reports of Mastercard’s interest in acquiring the startup (which already serves clients like Morgan Stanley and Stripe) in a deal that could value the company at up to $2 billion.

Now, the market is watching for potential confirmation of the acquisition by Mastercard, which is actively expanding its presence in stablecoins through USDC settlements in EEMEA and pilots in Kazakhstan. The MiCA license makes Zerohash a key strategic target for the payment giant’s tokenization plans.
