TL;DR
- Lido DAO has approved the activation of the Community Staking Module (CSM) on Ethereum, facilitating access for independent stakers to strengthen decentralization.
- The CSM allows validators to operate with a minimum capital of only 2.4 ETH, thereby reducing entry barriers for new participants.
- The Early Adoption phase of the CSM will allow certain selected stakers to access the system first.
Lido DAO has approved the activation of the Community Staking Module (CSM) on the main Ethereum network. This new module aims to increase the participation of independent stakers, which in turn reinforces the decentralization and security of the Ethereum ecosystem.
Through this solution, the aim is to facilitate access for a larger number of participants to operate Ethereum validators, eliminating the need for advanced technical expertise and a minimum capital of 32 ETH.

The launch of the CSM will begin with an Early Adoption phase, which will allow certain selected stakers and those who stood out in the testnet to access the system first. Initially, the entry requirement is set at 2.4 ETH, or 1.5 ETH for Early Adoption participants, making this amount much more accessible than the minimum required for conventional solo staking. This strategy aims to attract a wide spectrum of users who wish to contribute to the network without the burden of high capital.
Lido Prepares to Democratize Node Validation on Ethereum
Dmitry Gusakov, the technical leader of the CSM, emphasized that this new model will not only allow more individuals to participate in the security of Ethereum but will also help create a more robust and resilient network. According to Gusakov’s statements, the goal is to break down barriers so that anyone, regardless of their financial circumstances or technical knowledge, can help protect Ethereum. The module aligns with the vision of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin to empower independent stakers and diversify validation control, which is currently concentrated in a few entities.
The CSM was initially launched on the Holesky testnet on July 1, 2024, where around 370 node operators participated during this period. There was strong interest, with 70 solo stakers joining in the first ten days, indicating strong demand for more accessible staking solutions.
Lido’s Community Lifeguards Initiative has also played a crucial role in this development. This initiative seeks to foster community participation through educational programs and events that have introduced new stakers to the Lido ecosystem. Going forward, it is expected that this initiative will continue to expand its reach and promote education about Ethereum and staking
