Popular cryptocurrency exchange Binance’s charity arm, Binance Charity Foundation (BCF) has recently announced a partnership with Safe Future, an East African non-governmental organization that operates from Uganda with the vision to improve the learning conditions of thousands of children in the country. Together the two organizations will be aiming to provide new supplies to schools in Uganda that will hopefully make the learning experience for pupils in the country which ranks as one of the poorest countries in the world.
BCF will fund the acquisition of school implements including solar panels, sanitary pads, school supplies, and LED screens. In addition, the MoU signed by the two organizations specifies that they will provide in addition to the above-mentioned items, meals to the schools that they will choose to support. This means that kids will be provided for breakfast, tea break as well as lunch meals.
Safe Future’s CEO Mula Anthony has stated that this initiative will affect at least 100,000 pupils studying in over 160 schools based across the country. In a tweet by Anthony, the executive said that,
“Binance for Children Special Impact Education Project Uganda’ implementation started with lighting up of two project schools. Pupils and Teachers at the two Kampala schools are so excited. Thanks to Blockchain Charity Foundation.”
The ceremony that culminated in the signing of the MoU was attended by some high ranking Ugandan government dignitaries including the country’s vice president H.E. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Ali Kirunda Kivenjinja, and Minister of State for Cooperatives Hon. Gume Fredrick Ngobi. H.E. Ssekandi expressed his gratitude during his speech, appreciating the efforts of the two organizations in improving the education standards in the country. He promised that the Ugandan government will commit to supporting the initiative as well and asked the charity beneficiaries to show their appreciation through hard work and excellent grades in the upcoming national examinations.
Hon. Kivenjinja, who also appreciated the efforts of both BCF and Safe Future specifically mentioned the benefits of blockchain and how BCF uses it to maintain transparency in the charity’s activities. He urged the country to embrace the nascent technology.
Speaking on behalf of their organizations, BCF Executive Director Ms. Athena Yu and Mula Anthony outlined their short term plans for the initiative. Anthony specified how his NGO will act as the middleman for ensuring that BCF’s donations reach the kids and the projects are actually implemented as desired by the Foundation.
