Chainalysis said that prediction markets tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup generated $20 billion in volume from January through the tournament’s end. Nearly 400,000 wallets participated, while activity during the five-week event reached $5.7 billion, making the World Cup one of the largest on-chain betting events recorded.

Daily volume began near $50 million early in 2026, climbed above $100 million during active periods and jumped toward $250 million after matches started June 11. The final between Spain and Argentina generated more than $300 million, while World Cup markets accounted for about 63% of total prediction-market volume during the tournament.

Chainalysis found that fewer than 1% of participating wallets had identifiable illicit ties, although $5.4 million flowed directly from Huobi/HTX into betting wallets. FIFA Collect separately generated $24 million in stablecoin-powered collectible trades and helped more than 100,000 fans secure tickets. The next test is whether major sporting events can sustain this on-chain participation without weakening compliance controls.
