THORChain Prioritizes Stability and Delays Monero, Zcash and POL

THORChain delays Monero, Zcash, POL and revenue sharing after v3.20 as developers prioritize stability, ADR30 and memoless-swap defenses.

TL;DR

  • THORChain delayed Monero, Zcash, protocol-owned liquidity and SwapKit revenue sharing for an initial one-to-two-week stability review internally following v3.20 and a planned hotfix.
  • ADR30, at 38% approval when discussed, would let node operators delegate selected administrative commands without giving up control of funds or private keys.
  • Memoless swaps remain paused after registration spam, while THORChain explores defenses and considers AI-native tooling including an existing MCP server and possible agent-focused wallet.

THORChain is pausing several roadmap launches after v3.20 as developers prioritize network stability and prepare a v3.20.1 hotfix. Monero, Zcash, protocol-owned liquidity deployment and the planned SwapKit revenue-share test are all delayed for an initial one-to-two-week review, not cancelled. The immediate priority is proving the network can operate reliably before more features go live. Developers traced recent instability to app-layer calls hitting non-deterministic API endpoints, where varying responses could alter gas consumption, an unacceptable condition for consensus. A temporary app-layer pause remains technically possible, although the team has not decided to use it for now.

Stability reshuffles THORChain’s roadmap

The delay reshuffles several closely watched launches. Churns are expected to resume during the stability period, but new chains will not be the near-term focus. Protocol-owned liquidity deployment, which v3.20 was designed to support by directing system income into selected pools, is also waiting. THORChain is explicitly choosing operational confidence over keeping its release calendar intact. The proposed SwapKit arrangement is similarly paused even though implementation is close, with an initial test expected to direct 20% of fees into a partner-controlled bucket before results during testing determine whether the share should rise, fall or stop.

Governance work continues while launches wait. ADR30 was at 38% approval when discussed and would let node operators delegate selected administrative commands to another address without surrendering control of funds or private keys. The proposal separates routine operations from custody, aiming to improve node management without redesigning protocol economics. Other ideas, including free stablecoin swaps, per-asset minimum fee settings and a limit-order proposal, remain actively queued. THORChain is also exploring an AI-native interface: an open-source MCP server already exists in GitLab, while an agent-friendly command-line wallet with structured JSON output remains only a possible direction.

Memoless swaps face a separate pause after someone repeatedly registered short memo identifiers to capture incorrectly sent inbound transactions. The attack does not compromise formed swaps, and the attacker was operating at a loss when discussed. The design problem now is preventing registration spam without making legitimate memoless transactions harder to use. Options include raising registration costs as identifier space fills, capping registrations per block, binding registrations to sending addresses or including amounts. THORChain is keeping the feature disabled while developers evaluate defenses and advise users to construct transactions correctly and test with small amounts.
