Nonfungible token (NFT) marketplace SuperRare has made a significant leap into the Bitcoin Ordinals ecosystem through its partnership with Bitcoin-based art platform Gamma. This strategic move marks a transition for SuperRare towards becoming more multichain in its operations, expanding beyond its initial focus on Ethereum.

Zack Yanger, the senior vice president of SuperRare Labs, expressed that the decision to move into Bitcoin NFTs follows a significant show of interest from their artist community. This prompted the choice to test out Ordinals as a means to assist artists on their platform.

Yanger highlighted the potential liquidity of Bitcoin Ordinals for artists, stating in an interview with news media Decrypt:

“Bitcoin is the largest blockchain with the most potential liquidity by far. If we can help artists connect with a new class of crypto collectors, we consider that to be a massive win”.

After exploring the Bitcoin Ordinals ecosystem in 2023, Yanger met many people working within the space and realized there’s been a lot of development within Ordinals. He characterized the teams developing on Ordinals as “considerate” and “smart”.

Even with some critiques of Ordinals introducing digital clutter to the Bitcoin network, Yanger believes that Bitcoin Ordinals are not going anywhere. He sees a bright future for Ordinals, especially in the higher value end of the digital art market where higher transaction fees are less of an issue.

SuperRare made its entrance into Bitcoin Ordinals through a partnership with the artist Killer Acid, launching an NFT collection named “No Brainers”. The artist is known for mysterious, humorous, and detailed psychedelic art. This move by SuperRare is a testament to the growing interest and development in the Ordinals space since the protocol launched at the start of last year.

As Ethereum remains the number one network for NFTs based on trading volume, Bitcoin is heating up as another key place to mint digital artwork and collectibles thanks to the Ordinals protocol.

With this expansion, SuperRare is not only supporting its artists in creative ways but also contributing to the growth and diversity of the NFT marketplace. As the crypto world continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how other platforms respond to this multichain future.
