A solo Bitcoin miner validated block 938092 and pocketed a reward of 3.125 BTC, equivalent to over $200,000, after investing just $75 in rented hashrate.
The event was reported by mining firm Braiins, which detailed how the miner rented 1 petahash per second of computing power through on-demand hashrate, paying approximately 119,000 satoshis for the service. To coordinate the work, the miner used CKPool, a platform that allows individual miners to operate independently by leveraging a pool server to issue and submit solutions.
The block was validated at around 8:04 UTC on Tuesday, according to data from Mempool.space. The return obtained on the initial investment makes this case one of the most remarkable strokes of luck recorded recently in solo mining.
Although solving a block solo is statistically unlikely, it has happened on more than one occasion. According to data aggregator Bennet, 21 independent miners achieved the same result over the past year, accumulating a total of 66 BTC valued at $4.1 million. That represents a 17% increase compared to the previous year, with an average interval of one solo block every 17.2 days.
