U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton announced on June 29, 2026, that Los Angeles director and writer Carl Erik Rinsch was sentenced to 30 months in prison. Prosecutors said Rinsch stole $11 million meant for the planned science-fiction show “White Horse,” making production financing the center of a fraud case with crypto spillover.
Director sentenced for production fraud: “Carl Erik Rinsch promised to make a television show,” said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. “Instead, he used $11 million meant for production as his personal casino and luxury fund.”https://t.co/5XHj1gWFyi

The case affects the streaming company that funded the project and the court-ordered recovery process. According to prosecutors, Rinsch moved the funds through bank accounts, lost more than half on stock options, then used remaining money for cryptocurrency speculation, luxury goods and personal expenses, making investor-style risk-taking part of the fraud narrative.
The next step is enforcement of the sentence and financial penalties. Rinsch, 48, also received three years of supervised release, $11 million in forfeiture and $700 in mandatory special assessments, so the case now shifts from conviction to punishment and recovery.
