The president of the Polish Olympic Committee, RadosÅ‚aw Piesiewicz, was detained and formally charged as part of the investigation into Zondacrypto, the Polish cryptocurrency exchange that collapsed amid a liquidity crisis. Poland’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Waldemar Å»urek, confirmed the detention through his X account.

According to Żurek, the charges against Piesiewicz fall under two provisions of the Polish Penal Code: influence peddling and preferential treatment of certain creditors over others in an insolvency context.

According to local outlet TVP World, the accusation includes that Piesiewicz recovered the entirety of his funds invested in Zondacrypto while thousands of users remain unable to withdraw their money.

Zondacrypto had been the general sponsor of the Polish Olympic Committee since October 2025, before suspending its operations in April of the following year due to lack of liquidity.

The then-CEO, Przemysław Kral, explained that Zondacrypto could not access a wallet holding approximately 4,500 Bitcoin due to lacking the private keys. Kral faces charges of large-scale fraud and is cooperating with investigators in exchange for a potential sentence reduction.
