Ondo Finance unlocks tokenized stocks as collateral for perpetual trading, introducing a new use case for tokenized real-world assets that extends beyond simple ownership. The feature is now available to pre-alpha participants on Ondo Perps, allowing eligible traders to post tokenized equities as collateral while trading perpetual futures linked to U.S. stocks, exchange-traded funds, commodities, and other financial instruments.

The announcement reflects a broader trend across decentralized finance, where tokenized assets are increasingly integrated into trading, lending, and collateral management instead of remaining passive investment products. As institutions continue experimenting with blockchain-based securities, platforms are looking for ways to improve capital efficiency without relying on traditional market hours.

Ondo Finance Expands Utility For Tokenized Assets

According to Ondo Finance, traders outside the United States, Panama, and other restricted jurisdictions can access the service around the clock through a permissionless infrastructure. Instead of selling tokenized stocks to free up liquidity, users can keep exposure to their holdings while simultaneously opening leveraged perpetual positions.

The platform supports perpetual contracts tied to assets including oil, gold, Apple, Tesla, and other traditional financial products. Ondo Perps also offers up to 20x leverage, aiming to replicate many of the features found on established derivatives exchanges while remaining available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

To encourage early adoption, the company introduced a $150,000 USDC rewards campaign for qualifying activity during the platform’s first week. Ondo President Ian De Bode said blockchain infrastructure is creating a more flexible investment experience by removing many limitations associated with conventional brokerage services.

Tokenized Markets Continue To Gain Momentum

The latest release builds on Ondo’s expansion into tokenized U.S. securities. Over the past year, the company introduced onchain access to more than 100 U.S. stocks and ETFs for eligible investors across Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, and Latin America. More recently, it also launched tokenized versions of BlackRock’s iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV) and Micron shares under the third-party custody framework outlined by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Competition in tokenized derivatives has intensified with Hyperliquid and Ostium pursuing similar markets. Ondo’s strategy focuses on combining tokenized securities with collateral management, giving users additional flexibility while maintaining exposure to traditional financial assets.
