TL;DR
- Near Protocol introduced its project to create the world’s largest open-source AI model, with 1.4 trillion parameters.
- The platform integrated its mainnet with MetaMask and all Ethereum wallets, allowing users to access its applications without changing wallets.
- This integration will be key to enhancing chain abstraction, promoting interoperability and efficiency in DeFi.
Near Protocol announced its ambitious project at the Redacted conference in Bangkok, Thailand, aiming to create the largest open-source artificial intelligence (AI) model in the world, which will have 1.4 trillion parameters.
This project aims to surpass existing open-source models, like Meta’s Llama, in size and capability. It will be based on a collaborative approach that will allow experts and developers to contribute to the model’s development and growth.

The plan will be developed through Near AI Research, a new research hub driven by collaboration and an open-source methodology. From the start of the conference, participants began training an initial model with 500 million parameters.
Over time, the project will gradually scale toward more complex models through a progressive selection process of the most important collaborators, who will play a crucial role in building the subsequent models. This approach will allow for constant evolution and gradual sophistication at each stage, ultimately reaching 1.4 trillion parameters.
Additionally, Near’s model seeks to implement effective monetization and ensure participants’ privacy through the use of secure, encrypted execution environments known as Trusted Execution Environments. This technology will protect collaborators’ information and facilitate their compensation.
Near Protocol Integrates with MetaMask
Moreover, the platform revealed another important development: the full integration of its mainnet with MetaMask and all Ethereum wallets, enabling users in this ecosystem to directly access Near applications without needing to change or create new wallets.
According to Illia Polosukhin, co-founder and CEO of Near, this integration is crucial to advancing chain abstraction, allowing Ethereum users to interact seamlessly with applications on other networks. This advancement facilitates new user onboarding and promotes efficiency in decentralized financial services
