TL;DR
- MoonPay added Discover Network support directly in the United States, allowing eligible cards to fund cryptocurrency purchases and sales alongside Visa and Mastercard.
- The integration expands MoonPay’s existing payment lineup, but issuing banks still decide whether individual cards may be used for cryptocurrency transactions at checkout.
- MoonPay serves more than 30 million customers, supports over 500 enterprise clients, and continues expanding through payments and artificial intelligence infrastructure for global users.
MoonPay has added Discover Network support for cryptocurrency purchases and sales in the United States, extending its checkout infrastructure to another major card rail. The integration means eligible Discover Network cards can now be used through MoonPay, giving consumers and businesses an additional route between fiat currencies and digital assets across the expanding American market. Discover becomes the third major U.S. card network available on MoonPay, joining Visa and Mastercard. Yet the expansion comes with an important qualification: individual transactions remain subject to the policies of each card-issuing bank, which may still restrict cryptocurrency activity.

Discover integration broadens MoonPay’s payment reach
MoonPay already supports a broad menu of payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, bank transfers, and regional payment rails. Adding Discover strengthens that portfolio while addressing a network that has historically pursued fewer cryptocurrency partnerships than Visa and Mastercard. The company is betting that familiar payment options can reduce checkout friction, particularly for users who may abandon a transaction when their preferred method is unavailable during the final payment. MoonPay said its platform is built around enabling people to purchase crypto using the same payment methods they rely on for everyday spending.
The announcement concerns the Discover Network payment rail itself, which processes transactions between cardholders and merchants, rather than simply acknowledging that certain Discover cards have appeared on cryptocurrency platforms before. CEX.IO and Sardine, a partner of BitPay’s crypto marketplace, already accept some cards on the network. MoonPay’s integration provides direct support for eligible cards operating through Discover Network, although acceptance is not automatic for every cardholder during actual checkout attempts. Issuing banks retain authority over transaction categories, leaving a curious gap between network-level availability and the practical ability of individual customers to complete crypto purchases.
Founded in 2019, MoonPay says it serves more than 30 million customers globally and supports over 500 enterprise clients across cryptocurrency and fintech. Its expansion has included MoonPay Agents, a non-custodial infrastructure layer designed to let artificial intelligence agents create wallets and conduct transactions autonomously. The Discover agreement arrives as MoonPay continues widening both its payment and technology footprint. The company previously raised $555 million at a $3.4 billion valuation, later secured a $200 million revolving credit facility from Galaxy, and reported that 2024 net revenue rose 112% as it became profitable and cash-flow positive.
