TL;DR

  • Typewriter Launch: Monad introduced Typewriter, a framework that gives crypto application developers greater control over the transaction supply chain.
  • Core Features: The framework supports custom sequencing, fast confirmations processed in single-digit milliseconds, built-in account functionality, passkeys, session keys, gas sponsorship, and the removal of several intermediaries.
  • Target Applications: Monad designed Typewriter for exchanges, games, and marketplaces that need quick responses and flexible transaction ordering.

Monad has unveiled Typewriter, a new framework designed to give crypto application developers greater control over transaction execution, ordering, and user experience. The system allows applications to provide near-instant responses, custom transaction sequencing, built-in account functionality, and gas sponsorship without requiring teams to build complex infrastructure from scratch.

For Monad, the transaction supply chain plays a major role in determining user experience, including speed, fees, and responsiveness. Monad aims to make advanced infrastructure accessible without requiring developers to build custom systems from scratch.

Typewriter Brings More Control to Application Developers

The announcement highlights how some successful crypto applications have already taken ownership of key transaction processes. Examples include Hyperliquid, which operates its own chain and controls execution and consensus, and Polymarket, which performs most transaction handling offchain before settling trades onchain.

With Typewriter, Monad is offering a framework that lets developers write application logic in Solidity while allowing application-operated servers to execute and order user actions before they reach the blockchain. Users interact through signed mutations, such as placing an order, and the server processes those mutations locally before submitting them onchain. According to Monad, this approach can provide immediate responses without requiring users to wait for blockchain confirmation.

Fast Confirmations and Built-In Account Features

One of the main features presented by Monad is custom sequencing. Applications can choose how mutations are ordered, either by processing them in arrival order or by prioritizing selected actions within short batches. The framework also delivers fast confirmations by processing transactions on the application server in single-digit milliseconds before any block is produced.

In addition, Monad says Typewriter includes built-in account support through technologies such as passkeys, session keys, WebAuthn verification, and credential management features. Other capabilities include gas sponsorship, where the server covers settlement transaction costs, and a design that removes external relayers, sequencers, and builder auctions between users and applications.

Trust Model and Intended Use Cases

According to Monad, the Solidity contract remains the definitive source of application state transitions and authorization rules. The server can execute actions locally and return results immediately, but onchain settlement remains the final authority if any discrepancy occurs. Monad also introduced a force-inclusion mechanism that allows users to submit signed mutations directly through a contract queue if the server becomes unavailable.

The framework is positioned for user-facing applications such as exchanges, games, and marketplaces, where fast responses and customized ordering can improve the overall experience. At the same time, Monad notes that Typewriter is less suitable for highly composable infrastructure because every state change passes through the application server.
