Marathon Digital Holdings has filed a federal lawsuit to block a local vote in Hood County, Texas, that aims to create a new municipality surrounding its Bitcoin mining facility. The company claims the measure is intended to drive it out through taxes and local regulations.

The vote, scheduled for November 4, seeks to establish the town of Mitchell Bend around MARA’s operations near Granbury. In its complaint, the company accuses County Judge Ron Massingill, County Attorney Matt Mills, and Elections Administrator Stephanie Cooper of ā€œintentional and unconstitutionalā€ conduct in advancing the initiative, allegedly violating the Texas Local Government Code.

The dispute originated from neighborhood complaints about noise coming from the data center, which MARA acquired in 2024. The company implemented mitigation measures such as soundproof walls and immersion cooling technology, yet tensions remain. MARA alleges that local officials worked with the group Citizens Concerned About Wolf Hollow to fast-track the incorporation effort despite flaws in the petition.
